Relationships: What Are We?

Figuring out where your relationship is heading is important. It helps you both better understand your intentions, how you feel about each other, what’s working and what isn’t, and what boundaries you might want to start setting to ensure you’re both happy with how things are going. Maybe you want to keep things casual, maybe you want to take things to the next level, maybe you want to break it off altogether–the only way to get on the same page is to talk about it (we don’t do ghosting anymore!).

Keeping it Casual

Maybe you want your relationship to be casual–you like spending time together but don’t see them as someone you want to be in a committed relationship with, or maybe you’re just not ready to be in one yourself. That’s totally okay! Having a casual sexual relationship doesn’t mean you’re immature, they can still be intimate, fulfilling, and meaningful even if they’re not exclusive or focused on building an emotional relationship together. Check out our Hooking Up info page for more, or look into our blog post about what it means to be Friends With Benefits.

The Next Level

Figuring out where to take things has to happen through communication. We might not want to put a label on something, add unnecessary pressure, or ruin what we have with someone but checking in doesn’t always have to be a big emotional conversation. Sometimes it’s as easy as asking “how do you think we’re doing?” and going from there. We’ve come up with a Sexual Inventory Checklist that might make these conversations a bit easier by giving you some things to think about when you’re trying to figure out what you want from a relationship.
